Recently SYFY wire posted something about the next World War Z movie and since we haven’t heard anything about it in almost 2 years, well, thanks to Variety, here ya go!
Speaking to producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, Variety learned the film was scheduled to shoot in June of 2019 — though there’s no completed script as of yet from Black Sea screenwriter Dennis Kelly. The sequel had a bit of tumult in its infancy as well, replacing its first director, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s J.A. Bayona, with Gone Girl’s David Fincher. But now, pending a finalized script from Kelly, whose experience mainly exists in stage productions and TV, this movie may actually happen.
However, if the filming doesn’t start until June of next year, it’s likely that World War Z 2 (or whatever they call it) won’t hit theaters until the middle of 2020. And that’s being generous. If the sequel follows in its predecessor’s footsteps, it may end up being delayed far longer than that. But that’s the thing with zombies — they just keep plodding along, never quite dying.
While it’s apparent we’ll ALL be waiting another year or so, rest assured at least the project isn’t DEAD in the water…pun intended.
