Deadline first reported that a stuntman for AMC’s The Walking Dead, John Bernecker, was critically injured from a fall while performing a stunt. Various sources have reported that Bernecker and an actor were rehearsing a fight scene that was supposed to end with a routine fall from a balcony when he lost his balance and fell 30 feet to a concrete floor. Immediately following the accident,he was taken to the ICU at Atlanta Medical Center.
AMC released this statement:
“We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident on set. He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital, and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”
It is now been confirmed that tragically, due the extent of his injuries, John Bernecker has died.
According to his IMDB page, John had 92 film and TV credits for stunt work and 13 acting credits. He was best known for his recent stunt work on Black Panther (2018), Logan (2017) and Fantastic Four (2015).
Per Deadline, AMC earlier today suspended production on Season 8 of its zombie apocalypse series. No word yet on how long TWD producers and cable network intend to keep production shuttered.
