Scares That Care is one of my favorite conventions. Why? Because their primary focus is raising money for charity. Scares That Care Weekend 3 will be held at the Hilton Doubletree 50 Kingsmill Road, Williamsburg, Virginia, 23185.
Scares That Care is a non-profit approved 501(c)(3) who fights the REAL MONSTERS of childhood illness, burns and breast cancer by helping families that are experiencing these extraordinary hardships cope with the financial burden.Their non-profit organization provides money, toys and other items to help sick children. In addition they have two other programs consisting of “Scares For Pairs,” where we help women fighting breast cancer and partnered with horror icon Kane Hodder for the “I Helped Kane” program, where we provide assistance to those children who have suffered serious burn injuries.
Celebrities attending this year’s con include Mitch Pileggi,Bob Gunton, R.J. Haddy, Roy Woley, Danny lloyd and Kane Hodder to mention a few. The “Writers Block’ will include 18 writers like Joe R. Lansdale, Brian Smith, Brian Keene, Mary San Giovanni, Yvonne Navarro, and Kelli Owen.
New this year, STC will also host a 5k race.
From the website:
Do you like things that go bump in the night? Do you like the feeling you get from helping others? If you answered YES to both of those questions, then this is the summer race for you. Come join Scares that Care for an evening 5k in Williamsburg where you are guaranteed to spot zombies along the course, monsters at the finish line and scary creatures roaming the post-race party with finisher medals for all 5k participants. Last year’s convention drew over 3,000 attendees and this year they are expecting 4,000+. The Scares that Care Inaugural 5k is this summers must do event.
